It’s a Really BIG Show

Many of my friends and I often try to get into a couple of local visual arts exhibitions. I’ve been accepted into both of them at different times, but never during the same year. Lawndale Art Center, one of the two exhibition sponsors, recently announced their call for entry for the 2024 BIG Show. I was accepted into their 2023 juried exhibition and enjoyed my eight-month relationship that ended with an auction and brunch at their facility.

Following the end of the 2023 exhibition, I was asked if I would donate my piece to their Lending Library. According to their website, “the Lawndale Lending Library is an arts lending library that serves as a platform to build relationships between art lovers and contemporary artists in support of regional artists. Members of Lawndale Art Center can borrow the artwork of local artists for select periods throughout the year, culminating in a Library Silent Auction where the artwork can be bid for purchase.” I was thrilled when my piece sold for more than its asking price.

Not too long ago, I was asked if I would lend two more prints to their lending library. These prints would be available to their members until the annual auction next year.

I was pleased when they selected a couple of lumen prints that I had created to work together as a pair. It’s difficult to tell from these images, but the color of the mahogany frames perfectly complement the images.

Only time will tell if I’ll be accepted into the 2024 show. With each juried show, everything is different–the juror, the number and content of the submitted artwork, and the mix (2D or 3D) of the art. Regardless of the outcome, I’m thrilled to have my work accepted into their Lending Library.
